In 2009 the original team was brought together to look at Marine Debris in The North Pacific and Sargasso Sea through Project Kaisei.
During the process of exploring over 3000 nautical miles in 2009 and the subsequent research our team created a unique multidisciplinary approach to looking at environmental contaminant issues and creative solution strategies.
Blue Ocean Sciences Is Born!
In 2010 The Not-For-Profit Blue Ocean Sciences was formed. Our goal was to Bring together eminent experts, utilize the latest technology, share validated scientific information, create effective educational materials, and develop accurate media communication on the status and health of the world’s oceans.
Following the successful Blue Ocean Sciences expeditions the team travelled the world lecturing on marine debris to scientists, politicians, world leaders, and school children. Outreach materials detailing these explorations are currently being used by NOAA and many other organizations.
BOS Goes Across The Atlantic!
Blue Ocean Sciences (BOS) and the Schmidt Ocean Institute collaborated on the Lone Ranger Atlantic Expedition leaving In January of 2011. On board, was the BOS-SOI Marine Debris Dream Team - a coalition of internationally recognized scientists, all of whom are experts in their field.
Using cutting-edge technologies the team hunted through sea trash, targeting microbes that may hold the promise for new energy sources - while researching advanced methods for understanding contaminants polluting these critical ocean environments. Together we explored over 3000 nautical miles from the Canary Islands to Bermuda
